Google is applying to join a European Union antitrust case against Microsoft over the inclusion on Internet Explorer in Windows.

Google said in a statement that it believes Microsoft’s practices with Internet Explorer was uncompetitive.

“Google believes that the browser market is still largely uncompetitive, which holds back innovation for users,” said Google’s Sundar Pichai “This is because Internet Explorer is tied to Microsoft’s dominant computer operating system, giving it an unfair advantage over other browsers.”

Google also said it was also applying to become a “third party” in the case.

Google has a track record of coming out against Microsoft, having previously complained to the EU about Internet Explorer in 2006, and lobbying the US Government against the failed Microsoft takeover of Yahoo.
