Last week Google+ ditched their invite-only policy, opening up the floodgates for everyone to join the site and now it’s being reported that Google has witnessed a 1,269% increase in the number of users taking advantage of the network.
Based on current numbers the site is said to have more than 50 million members. With the type of visitor increases Google+ is receiving they are reported to have more account creation activity than Twitter while still lagging behind Facebook and Google’s very own video sharing website YouTube .
The move according to analytics reporting firm Hitwise has also opened up the site to a larger demographic, allowing Google to attract more than the sites average 18-to-24-year-old crowd. Analytical reporting shows that the site is now seeing a larger middle-income user class, an increase in the number of “single” users and more Hispanics taking to the social network.
While some analysts believe Google+ could one day catch up to Facebook thanks to privacy concerns and outrage over interface changes at the world’s largest network, Google has a long way to go as Facebook reaches for the 800 million user mark.
