Google Encrypted Search Option, Currently Running In Beta

Hey Zuckerberg, take a clue from Google. The world’s largest and most pac-man friendly search engine is successfully running a new search option Google SSL , a security encryption version of the companies search engine that’s currently available in beta form.

The site according to Rudi Stettner allows users to find search results, while those searches are not visible to other users who have access to the network. The move is in response to user concerns after recent Google properties have reported intercepted communications by users at their place of work.

According to Ars Technica :

“SSL search means that an encrypted connection is created between your browser and Google’s servers. When you perform a search, your search terms and whatever results come back from them will only be visible to you—anyone who might be sniffing packets on your network (such as, say, Google!) won’t be able to see that you’re looking up cures for hemorrhoids, the lyrics to every song in the musical Cats , or something worse.”

For now you can only complete regular searches, but hopefully if all works out images, map and blog searches will also be covered in the future.

You can find the encrypted search by adding a simple “s” to your http: URL for Google as follows:

https://www.google.com/

Just remember the HTTPS privacy searches extend to Google only so if you go clicking on YouPorn link you’re boss may not know you searched for adult videos, but they’ll know you were looking at them….”Dear YouPorn, please implement Google SSL type features….”
