Glenn Beck is not thrilled with Rachel Maddow comparing him to wild ( some might say delusional ) conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.
Let’s be fair. It’s not like Beck hasn’t ever beat the conspiracy drum before , and Maddow has shown her own fair share of questionable labeling . But while Beck is not exactly immune to criticism, being compared to far-right firebrand Alex Jones is apparently where he draws the line and decides to speak out.
In a segment titled “Maddow’s Intellectual Integrity Questioned,” Beck plays soundbites of the MSNBC host calling out a number of conspiracy theories and labeling them the “Glenn Beck-Alex Jones view of the world.” Beck says that he has never been called a conspiracy theorist in his life .
“Instead, I have debunked the 9/11 conspiracy stuff. We did an entire show on the Sandy Hook stuff. I received death threats because of the debunking of the Sandy Hook thing from the Alex Jones people,” Beck said. “So to put us into this group is so ridiculous.”
Maddow has ripped Jones in the past, most recently over his belief that the Boston bombings constituted a “false flag,” opining that they were an inside job, and even going so far as to suggest that the Oklahoma tornado that devastated Moore last month was caused by a governmental “weather weapon.”
She has also hosted segments on fringe conspiracy theories that made their way into Republican politics.
Defending Beck, co-host Steve Burguiere said: “In her effort to come up with one thing that you’re a conspiracy theorist on, she came up with none. All of the examples were all things that you didn’t believe and have been on the air saying you don’t believe for years.”
