Singer George Michael has cancelled the remainder of his 2011 tour stops after falling ill with pneumonia.

Earlier today, Michael’s management team released an official statement confirming the pop star’s condition which said: “George Michael is ill with pneumonia and any other speculation regarding his illness is unfounded and untrue.”

George, who was admitted to a hospital in Vienna, Austria earlier in the week, had reportedly been battling with a chest infection for for quite some time before medical experts told him to axe the remaining dates of his worldwide Symphonica Tour — which were all due to take place in the UK.

The two Austrian doctors treating Michael say he has “severe community acquired pneumonia” but added that “his condition has stabilized and he is responding to treatment.”

“Besides medical treatment, complete rest, and peace and quiet are mandatory,” Dr. Christoph Zielinski and Dr. Thomas Staudinger explained.

It’s not the first time George has cancelled gigs on his worldwide Symphonica Tour due to ill health.

Just last month, the 48-year-old “Faith” singer pulled out of one of his three sell-out gigs at London’s Royal Albert Hall with a viral infection and a high temperature.

As for the canceled tour dates: Details on plans to reschedule will be provided when available on the official George Michael website.
