Full ‘Rogue One’ Trailer, Spoilers: 1-Minute, 35-Second Preview Released As #RogueOne Trends [Video]

From the archive: published Apr 7, 2016, 10 years ago. Details may have changed since.

The full Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer has debuted via GMA on Thursday, April 7. The one-minute, 35-second long full preview Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer proved to be a lot longer than the 10-second long teaser trailer released on Wednesday, April 6. In that “preview of a preview,” only two seconds of the GMA trailer featured actual Rogue One: A Star Wars Story footage.

Now that Star Wars fans have much more than a 10-second preview to rely upon, they are salivating over the full trailer and sending #RogueOne to the top of the trends list on Twitter.

“State your name for the record.”

Jyn Erso — played by Felicity Jones — states her name, with the full Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer showing how Erso became the leader of men on an epic journey for Death Star plans. The full trailer began with a list of Jyn’s crimes being read to her as a means of exposition of her character in the film.

“Forgery of Imperial documents. Possession of stolen property. Aggravated assault. Resisting arrest.

“On your own from the age of 15. Reckless. Aggressive. Undisciplined.”

With wide-eyed resolve, Erso answers the charges with a statement that doesn’t deny the crimes read about her in the full Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer.

“This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel.”

As such, Jyn’s chutzpah is used in her favor, as her new Star Wars mission is revealed.

“We have a mission for you. A major weapons test is imminent. We need to know what it is and how to destroy it.”

When Erso is asked if she understands the true intent of her impending quest, Star Wars viewers can note the rebellion still in her eyes. The 32-year-old Jones appears well younger than her years as the actress — who might be best known to American audiences for her 2014 appearance in The Theory of Everything and in TV performances such as Girls — takes on her most prominent role to date.

“Is that clear?”

“Yes, sir.”

Forest Whitaker shows up in the full Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer as well, asking poignant and soul-searching questions about the odyssey being embarked upon, and how it will affect resolve.

“What will you do when they catch you? What will you do if they break you? If you continue to fight … what will you become?”

Meanwhile, the full Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer has caused Rogue One to garner 161,000 tweets and counting.

Fans are picking apart the full trailer and sharing spoiler theories and their points of view. Some believe the trailer doesn’t give away many spoilers.

“Did you guys see this? Old school stormtroopers and all.”

“I think I’m more excited about this film, the cast, and the director behind it more than any other film in Star Wars history… and I know this trailer is showing NOTHING.”

“Women are becoming more of the focus of storylines in the Star Wars franchise movies. And let me be the first to say that I love it”
