Lockeed Martin is known for many things but involvement with environmental projects isn’t one of them. Talk airplanes and Defence Department contracts and everyone nods their heads however mention wave power generation and everyone would probably shake their heads in bewilderment.
Well such is the case according to Megan Treacy over at the EcoGeek blog where she lets us know that Lockheed Martin is going to be partnering with Ocean Power Technologies to develop a utility-scale project off the coast of California or Oregon. The deal will see Lockheed construct and run the project and Ocean Power will supply its Powerbuoy generators.
Apparently this is the second big deal for Ocean Power as it has also signed a contract with the Navy to harness wave energy at its coastal military bases. As well Ocean Power already has its Powerbuoys deployed in Hawaii, Spain and New Jersey with the ones in Spain being its only commercial project to date.
