Francesca Eastwood must have missed the Republican National Convention.
The daughter of Clint Eastwood, the man who gave an impassioned but rambling speech at the convention, said she’s bucking from her father and voting for Barack Obama, The Huffington Post reported.
“I happen to be voting for a different man,” Francesca Eastwood said. “But I love that he stands up for what he believes in.”
Maybe she was swayed by the near-unanimous panning of her father’s RNC speech. In the address, Clint Eastwood rambled and at one point spoke to an empty chair made to represent Barack Obama. This move was a source of jokes for late-night talk shows and Saturday Night Live, and inspired a meme online known as “Eastwooding.”
The speech itself was part of a convention political analysts saw as lackluster, one that led Romney to a summer slump that he’s only now made up for in polls since the first presidential debate — though he’s still lost Francesca Eastwood ‘s vote.
Obama himself even took a jab at Clint Eastwood, joking to guests at this week’s Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner to take their seats or else “Clint Eastwood will yell at them.” The president noted that he has no hard feelings toward Eastwood, who he said is “a great actor and an even better director.”
Francesca Eastwood, who told TMZ about her lack of enthusiasm for Mitt Romney as she was leaving the Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood, isn’t the first famous daughter to buck conservative parents. Meghan McCain, daugther of 2008 presidential candidate John McCain, has broken with her father on a number of social issues.
