Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies took a young Florida woman, Lenora, into custody after a tense confrontation at the Daytona Beach post. A dispute over federal identification requirements escalated into a physical altercation and arrest after the woman allegedly bit a postal worker during a struggle over a package.
Investigators determined that the woman’s physical actions during the package dispute constituted battery under Florida law. The incident began when the woman attempted to retrieve a parcel but failed to present a physical government-issued photo ID. Despite producing a tracking number, a school ID, and a birth certificate, the postal worker denied the request, citing strict federal security guidelines.
“I have a picture. I don’t have the physical copy. I have my birth certificate. I have my school ID. I have any other thing that’ll show you proof with a picture of who I am and my name, but I just don’t have my government ID.”

“No ID, no passport—only she didn’t have any ID on her at all is what she told me.”

The situation deteriorated rapidly when the Florida woman allegedly lunged across the counter to seize the parcel by force. During the ensuing struggle, the woman bit the package to wrest control of it from the employee, officials said in the bodycam video.
“She lunged at me. I backed into the post office and I held on to it and I just held it right here holding on to it. She grabbed her arm, went on under inside of mine and had her hands on it and then pulled it up to her mouth and bit the package with my hand on it.”

Deputies interviewed the involved parties and an independent witness who observed the struggle.
An officer said:
“We’ve got independent witnesses that stated that you lunged at him to try to grab the package and for some reason bit the package which in turn bit him in the finger. He’s got marks.”

To which the suspect responded:
“I got arrested. For what? Battery. I wasn’t fighting a physical person, but what happened was I was in the post office and they had my package.”

Following the field investigation, officers informed the Florida woman that she was under arrest for battery and placed her in handcuffs.
Furthermore, her bail was set at $500, meaning a bail bondsman would charge a 10% premium ($50) to secure her release.
Authorities transported the suspect to the Volusia County Branch Jail. Deputies advised her that she would remain in custody without bond until her first appearance before a judge the following morning.
