Yesterday we reported about a Facebook glitch which changed Apple iOS user contact emails to @Facebook.com addresses. The switch occurred when Facebook members sync’d their mobile devices to the social network’s app. In one case an Adobe employee discovered emails to work partners were not only sent to the wrong email addresses, in many cases the messages simply disappeared.

According to Facebook the company’s application programming interface (API) experienced a bug that was pulling the last email address added to the account and adding it to mobile devices rather than keeping the users primary email address as it was programming to accomplish.

A Facebook representative told Mashable :

“Following the changes to the email visibility settings, we have received reports that certain phones are syncing their address books to the new Facebook address that is visible instead of the email users had previously shared with friends. We do not believe that this is a widespread issue and have confirmed that our API is correctly delivering all email addresses that are shared with a user, regardless of whether the email addresses are shown on a person’s timeline.”

Once the glitch is fixed each users contact list should see the correct primary email pulled back into their devices from each users Facebook account.

In the original discovery Adobe staffer Rachel Luxembrug wrote:

“Today, a co-worker discovered that his contact info for me had been silently updated to overwrite my work email address with my Facebook email address. He discovered this only after sending work emails to the wrong address. And even worse, the emails are not actually in my Facebook messages . I checked. They’ve vanished into the ether. For all I know, I could be missing a lot more emails from friends, colleagues, or family members, and never even know it.”

Facebook tells users at this time to check the Facebook message section called “Other Messages” to see if anyone accidentally sent an email to their @Facebook.com email address. If your @Facebook.com is listed as your primary email account be sure to change it back to fix your contact information via your friends, co-workers and family members phones.
