By now every nation on the planet with internet access has some kind of social media , and judging by the looks of things, it won’t be long until they’re all using Facebook more than any other.

According to social media strategist Vincenzo Cosenza, Facebook is now the No. 1 social network in 126 of 137 countries for which results could be established.

Cosenza updates his world map twice a year, in June and December, reports The Next Web , and CNET reports that of the 2 billion internet users world wide, Facebook has signed up nearly half.

Still, Cosenza’s map shows that some nations, namely Russia and China, are still hold outs. Odnoklassniki and VKonktakete remains the top networks in Russia, while Chinese users prefer Qzone.

The map shows Iran users prefer Cloob, Latvian’s opt for Drauglem, and Zing is the No. 1 network in Vietnam.

But the rest of the internet using world pretty much chooses Facebook.

The Next Web also presented a chart of who is No. 2 among several countries, with Twitter , Linkedin , and Badoo taking that position in most nations.

In the U.S. and in the United Kingdom, the order is Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin. In Canada, the order is Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter.

CNET reports that Facebook wrote the following in a filing with the SEC.

“There are more than two billion global Internet users, according to an industry source, and we aim to connect all of them. We have achieved varying levels of penetration within the population of Internet users in different countries For example, in countries such as Chile, Turkey, and Venezuela we estimate that we have penetration rates of greater than 80% of Internet users; in countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States we estimate that we have penetration rates of approximately 60%; in countries such as Brazil, Germany, and India we estimate that we have penetration rates of approximately 20-30%; in countries such as Japan, Russia, and South Korea we estimate that we have penetration rates of less than 15%; and in China, where Facebook access is restricted, we have near 0% penetration.”

The “World Map of Social Networks” uses a combination of Alexa and Google Trends for social media websites’ traffic data.
