Sam Raimi’s 1981 low-budget classic The Evil Dead launched the Michigan director’s career with it’s over the top violence and seductive black humor creating the perfect balance of scares and laughs for audiences across the globe.
Two sequels and a stage musical later it seems like viewers still can’t get enough of Ash Williams and his demon battling ways. Uruguayan filmmaker Fede Alvarez is set to direct a remake with Raimi producing, and now we have a synopsis to cast our eyes over and dream about. You can check it out below:
“In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.”
As you’d expect, it sounds down right petrifying if not vaguely familiar. Hopefully it will deviate from the original’s plot just a little bit so we aren’t just watching a straight shot-for-shot remake, but you can’t help but get excited for its March 15, 2013 release.
Raimi himself has been doing battle recently to make sure that an unauthorised sequel to the franchise’s production was shut down to stop it coinciding with his own new installment.
Another of Raimi’s producing credits, The Possession , recently leapt to the top of the box office over the Labour Day weekend , once again proving that the Spiderman director is still a horror deity in Hollywood.
