Chicago Bears’ fullback Evan Rodriguez was arrested Friday morning for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to the Chicago Tribune , Illinois State Police pulled Rodriguez over on the Kennedy expressway around 3:30 am Friday morning.
Police reports show that Rodriguez’s blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.17 — just more than double the legal limit of 0.08.
In addition to DUI, the athlete also was charged with speeding and improper lane usage.
On Friday afternoon, the Bears released the following statement regarding the incident:
“We are aware of the reports regarding Evan Rodriguez. We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the situation.”
Friday’s DUI incident marks the second time this off-season Rodriguez has been arrested by police.
In March of this year, Evan was arrested in Miami Beach while there to train with wide receiver Brandon Marshall and other teammates. At the time, police charged him with resisting an officer without violence and disorderly intoxication.
Though those charges were eventually dropped, Bears general manager Phil Emery expressed disappointment about the incident, and made it clear Rodriguez was “re-educated” on acceptable on and off-field behavior.
“Certainly was disappointed in his arrest,” Emery said in March. “Certainly Evan knows that I was disappointed. He was re-educated on my expectation of a Chicago Bear on and off the field, and I certainly expect good things from him. He made an error in a decision as far as where he was at, time and place, fortunately there’s been no case moving forward, but I was disappointed in him. He’s aware of that and we expect big things from him in terms of improving.”
A fourth-round pick in 2012 out of Temple, Rodriguez played in 12 games last season and caught 4 passes for 21 yards.
