Elon Musk and Nick Cannon’s Obsession with Having More Babies May Be Part of a Bizarre Trend

Published on: May 20, 2025 at 11:13 AM ET

Although Musk and Cannon both wanted to father Taylor Swift's children, the reasons behind their super breeding obsession are quite different.

Everyone is familiar with the weird competition between Elon Musk and Nick Cannon over who can have the most babies. Cannon already has 12 children with six women, while the Tesla owner is fathering 14 children with four women.

Last month, on X (formerly Twitter), The Masked Singer host declared that if his meme coin performed well, he would have a few more kids to beat Musk in the game.

“If the Wild’N Out Token gets to 100 million market cap I’m having three more kids to beat @elonmusk“If the Wild’N Out Token gets to 100 million market cap I’m having three more kids to beat @elonmusk,” he tweeted. Cannon is famous for often engaging in playful competition with the SpaceX owner.

In 2022, after his then-girlfriend Grimes gave birth to her second kid with him, Musk wrote on X, “Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis. A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far.”

Nick Cannon quickly chimed in, “Right there with you, my Brother!” adding a fist bump emoji. Although both of them would be considered super procreators who wanted to father Taylor Swift’s child, their views towards virility are quite different.

When asked about when he would have another child, the comedian initially noted that he was “leaving it to the lord.” However, later, he changed his stance, saying that he was “pressing hold” as it could leave an impact on his finances. After all, the cost of raising a child now continues to increase.

When it comes to Musk, money is not an issue. For the billionaire, super breeding is not about religion, but more about fighting the declining birth rate. Although he often keeps tight-lipped about his family planning, it is known that he wants to take it to the “legion-level.” According to The Wall Street Journal, he even contacted women on X to have his babies.

However, Musk and Cannon are not the only ones on the list who support the super breeding. Even conservatives like Donald Trump, JD Vance and Russia’s Vladimir Putin are seemingly pro-birthers. So, what exactly is the reason behind this sudden surge of super-breeding believers?

JD VANCE: “Let me put it very simply. I want more babies in the United States of America.”

This is what will change culture.

According to experts, the declining birth rate in the U.S. has already sparked a fear of population collapse. Many have turned to IVF and other technologies to have more and more kids with physical complications. However, unlike Musk, probably the biggest advocate for IVF, many pronatalists are against it. They firmly believe Americans need to promote early marriage instead, so that early and more births can happen. They are against abortion and contraception.

“They blame low birth rates on feminism, driven by women’s increased levels of education and employment,” said Karen Benjamin Guzzo, a sociology professor and the director of the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, reports HuffPost.

Another group of super procreators seems to believe that the world needs more of them. “With more power comes the desire and ego-driven states to be in control, admired by others, and never forgotten,” Shannon Chavez, a psychologist and s—x therapist in Beverly Hills, California, noted.

“The idea of reproduction becomes symbolic. It also challenges the social norms many of these men grew up with or saw their parents adhere to,” she added.

While these could be the main reasons behind the super breeding trend led by the likes of Musk and Cannon, there’s also another possibility: For some people, this could just be a kink.
