The Dumb and Dumber sequel has been rescued by Universal, with the original film’s stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels still attached.
The future of the sequel, to be titled Dumb and Dumber To, has long been in doubt . Carrey and Daniels seemed to go back and forth on their interest and confirmations from the studio or the production crew would be denied days later. Then, both stars and all of the necessaries for the film to be made came together for real.
Shortly after that, Dumb and Dumber To was dropped completely by Warner Bros .
Universal Pictures and Red Granite have rescued the Farrelly brothers film from obscurity at Warner Bros. and New Line. Red Granite will front the $35 million to fund the comedy, and will handle foreign sales. Universal will do distribution in the U.S.
The original 1994 cult comedy starred Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as dim-witted best friends Lloyd and Harry, respectively. The sequel will see the stars reprising their roles more than ten years after the first film.
T he script for Du,b and Dumber To was written by Sean Anders and John Morris, and it was then rewritten by directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly, who will produce alongside Red Granite’s Joe McFarland. Universal’s Jon Mone will oversee the project.
Little has been revealed about the plot for the sequel, but the Farrellys suggested that it would see Lloyd and Harry embark on another road trip .
