Don’t call Sarah Jessica Parker a feminist! The actress, who sat down with Marie Claire , doesn’t identify as a feminist. The actress, who covered issues that are plaguing America, such as the gender pay gap, got real with the magazine, and her words are bound to make some people scratch their heads.
Unlike some celebrities, including Emma Watson, Taylor Swift, and Lena Dunham, who are all proud feminists, Sarah Jessica Parker is telling people that she doesn’t qualify as one.
“I am not a feminist. I don’t think I qualify. I believe in women and I believe in equality, but I think there is so much that needs to be done that I don’t even want to separate it anymore.”
“I’m so tired of separation. I just want people to be treated equally.”
Going from her quote to Marie Claire , it seems like Sarah Jessica Parker is actually expressing what feminism is all about. We’re guessing that Parker doesn’t want to label herself, but it sounds like she is qualified.

As for her thoughts on the pay gap, she does think that women should be equal. “I would like all of that nonsense to end. I would like women to get paid for the value of their contributions, not by old-fashioned ideas about gender.”
As we know, the debate had a huge spotlight on it when Jennifer Lawrence, arguably the biggest Hollywood star of the moment, penned an essay on Lenny about how she failed to negotiate for herself because she didn’t want to be seen in a bad light. When Sony e-mails were hacked into, it was revealed that Lawrence was paid considerably less than all of her male co-stars in the film, American Hustle .
In the essay titled, “Why Do I Make Less Than My Male Co?Stars?” Lawrence explained how she felt.
“If I’m honest with myself, I would be lying if I didn’t say there was an element of wanting to be liked that influenced my decision to close the deal without a real fight. I didn’t want to seem ‘difficult’ or ‘spoiled.’ At the time, that seemed like a fine idea, until I saw the payroll on the Internet and realized every man I was working with definitely didn’t worry about being ‘difficult’ or ‘spoiled.’”
Lawrence went on to write, “This is an element of my personality that I’ve been working against for years, and based on the statistics.”

When the letter was published, it gave other actresses the platform to speak out about being underpaid, while some like Kate Winslet and Amy Adams shied away from the issue as a talking point. Sarah Jessica Parker seems to be doing both by claiming she’s not qualified as a feminist, while still giving her opinion, which happens to be by definition the beliefs of feminism.
Parker even brings up Lawrence in her comments about gender pay gap. “Listen, Jennifer Lawrence deserves every bit as much as her male counterpart. It’s indisputable. Emma Watson is an amazing young woman, and it’s important for her to talk about women’s issues. She isn’t concerned about herself.”
