The latest animal news involves two heartwarming stories of duty, love, and quick-thinking.
While on a routine police patrol, Lieutenant Bryan Taylor of the Oklahoma City Police Department was shocked to find a frightened, pregnant dog roaming the streets. While he could have just ignored the canine and continued his usual watch, the kind officer decided to take the time out of his day to help the lost animal. Thankfully, he followed his heart.
While helping the soon-to-be-mother, Officer Taylor took every step to make sure the dog’s safety, as well that of her unborn litter of pups. Some of Taylor’s measures included halting traffic to make sure an incoming car would not accidentally strike the pregnant dog if she were to run into the street, according to Life with Dogs . A similar story of an officer stepping in at the right moment emerged in February. One woman was so moved by the kind act, she sent the officer a letter.

In trying to gain the animal’s trust, Taylor offered the dog food while speaking to her in a kind, soft voice. In the end, the cop was able to gain the full trust of the pregnant pooch and protected her until they could find the dog’s owner.
Not long after Officer Taylor had saved the dog, however, the animal’s owner appeared in a panicked state after searching for her lost companion. The pet was exceptionally happy when she saw her human and, despite being fatigued from weeks of pregnancy; she joyfully leaped into her owner’s arms as a greeting.
Meanwhile, many bystanders were able to capture the entire heartwarming event on their smartphones and cameras, revealing the lengths law enforcement officers were willing to go through to help those in need, even if those in need are four-legged friends.
This next story is about being in the right place and at the right time.
While using his drone to film a sunset over Scotland’s Loch Morlich, a Scottish photographer unintentionally shot a remarkable video, showing a dog falling into the lake. It was followed by the death-defying rescue from the animal’s brave owner.
Roger Cruickshank, the operator of the drone, stated that the event occurred when the owner tossed a ball on the frozen surface of the large lake. Shockingly, when the dog ran after the ball, the ice cracked, and the pooch fell into the frigid water.

After his beloved pet had fallen into the water, the owner was frozen with fear and was not able to react. In a stroke of luck, a bystander dove into the lake and saved the hapless animal.
The video shows the man fighting through the water and ice to reach the drowning animal. After a few minutes, the man is able to arrive at the dog and pull him onto dry land. Cruickshank has spoken to reporters about the harrowing rescue.
“We really thought the dog was going to drown and people started to scream. I kept the drone overhead to ensure I could help by knowing exactly where the dog was when a man decided to wade out by breaking through the ice and going to get him.”
Although the rescue is quite heroic, it should be noted that saving animals in this situation is ill-advised, as the dog and his rescuer could have lost both of their lives. If you are ever faced with circumstances like this, it is best to call emergency personnel and let trained experts handle the event instead of taking matters into your own hands.
