Ian Somerhalder reminded Vampire Diaries fans that he’s totally over Nina Dobrev by sharing yet another sickly sweet Instagram post celebrating his love for Nikki Reed. So were his words about his wife a response to Nina’s recent comments about how she still loves and cares about Ian?
According to Us Weekly , Ian Somerhalder recently shared a shirtless Instagram photo to commemorate the end of his honeymoon. The photo pictured Ian dreamily gazing off in the distance while Nikki Reed nibbled on his shoulder.
“Feet back on US soil aka… New York City,” Ian captioned the photo below. “Dreaming of the Costa Rica rainforest. Thank you to this beautiful country: its land and its people. Thank you to this beautiful woman who makes every day a dream come true. Pura Vida.”

According to E! News , Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder broke up in May 2013, and Ian started romancing Nikki a year later. The new couple got engaged after six months of dating, and they got married last month.
Ian and Nina have worked hard to show their fans that they’ve remained on good terms since their split and they continued to work on The Vampire Diaries together until Nina decided to exit the show this year. Tonight will be their last episode together.
During an interview with E! News , Nina Dobrev explained that her decision to leave the show had nothing to do with her split from Ian Somerhalder — it wasn’t killing her inside to work with her ex and their breakup was an amicable one.
“I’ve said this before, that we didn’t break up because anything bad happened or because there wasn’t love or friendship,” Nina said. “I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he’s great and I care about him. And that didn’t change. Yes, we’re professional and that’s fine. We were friends long before we dated and we still are now.”
Vampire Diaries fans who still ship Ian and Nina in real life might see Nina’s use of the word “love” as a glimmer of hope, and perhaps Ian knew this after seeing her interview. His gushing Instagram post about Nikki Reed could have been a gentle way to let these shippers know that he and Nina are never going to get back together.
There’s also a possibility that Ian Somerhalder was trying to shut down rumors that his marriage is doomed. As the Inquisitr previously reported, there’s been speculation that Nikki Reed will leave Ian after their honeymoon phase ends. Sources close to the Twilight actress have pointed to her divorce from Paul McDonald as proof that she moves too fast.
