On April 17, 2012 Dick Clark underwent prostrate surgery, the next day the famed New Years eve celebrator passed away at the age of 82.
Clark’s surgery was revealed this week in his official death certificate. According to the coroner’s report Dick Clark underwent a transurethral resection of the prostate for benign prostatic hyperplasia on April 17. The surgery is typically performed when a mans prostate has grown so enlarged that it becomes difficult to urinate.
The death certificate goes on tho show that Dick Clark did in fact die of an acute myocardial infarction, in lay-terms a “heart attack.”
Clark’s death certificate also shows that the American Bandstand host suffered from coronary artery disease.
Also in the report it was revealed that Clark suffered from acute urinary retention which was caused by a benign prostatic hyperplasia which led to his surgery on April 17.
Clark passed away on April 18 at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California.
Dick Clark leaves behind a legacy in which he helped usher in acceptance for African American artists including Chuck Berry, Fats Domino and Chubby Checker.
In the meantime Ryan Seacrest is left to carry on in the tradition of Dick Clark, a man who many people say was chosen by Dick Clark himself to be his clean-cut heir apparent. After Dick Clark passed away Ryan Seacrest tweeted;
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend Dick Clark. He has truly been one of the greatest influences in my life. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
Dick Clark led a long and fulfilling life as the voice of a generation, regardless of the circumstances that surrounded his unfortunate death he will always be truly missed by his generations of fans.
