Today, people, not even one’s spouse, cannot be trusted easily. This story is about one such family whose mother is mourning the death of her three daughters. At a touching memorial service held in Wenatchee, Washington, on Friday, June 20, Whitney Decker paid tribute to her young daughters—Paityn, 9; Evelyn, 8; and Olivia, 5—who were allegedly killed by their father, Travis Decker. Whitney shared that all three girls had been in therapy as they learned to navigate their parents’ divorce and to express their emotions.
“I’m so thankful for that time I had with them,” she said. She described how their nightly conversations helped them connect deeply, saying, “When the world slowed down, it gave me an inside look at their day.” She credited these heart-to-hearts with shaping their compassion: “It allowed them to come into the world with open hearts and kindness.”

As per PEOPLE Magazine, the deceased daughters were last seen on May 30 during a planned visitation with their father. When their dad, Travis Decker, failed to return them by 8 p.m., Whitney reported them missing. Police later found his vehicle near Rock Island Campground on June 2, where the bodies of the three daughters were found. Reports confirmed the cause of death as suffocation.
Reportedly, the convict, Travis, was a U.S. Army veteran who had struggled with mental health issues, including paranoia and Borderline Personality Disorder. In addition, Whitney and Travis had reportedly separated in 2022 due to his mental health issues. Travis has since been charged for three counts of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and custodial interference.

Travis Decker, who went missing when the girls were found, is suspected to have taken his own life, though his body has not been recovered. As of June 8, the search for him was handed over to federal officials, with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office noting the strain on local aid. “We have reached a point where we need to rest our local resources,” the CCSO wrote in a statement shared on their Facebook page.
Meanwhile, Whitney, who deeply mourns her little daughters’ untimely death, spoke to the outlet and said, “I truly hope that the legacy of the girls’ lives lives on in everyone’s heart forever.” They were incredible.”
Perhaps it’s true when people say blood is no longer thicker than water, for these days, even strangers can be a better source of trust and support than family.
