A demolition crew in Texas made a huge mistake when they arrived on the right street, but then destroyed the wrong house.
The incident occurred in Lake Worth, Texas, and the unfortunately soul who lost his abode, David Underwood, is now planning to sue the council after they demolished his home, which has been part of his family for decades and belonged to his dead grandmother.
Underwood discovered the tragedy when he attempted to visit the house on Saturday, but when he arrived he only discovered a slab of concrete that was completely empty.
Mr Underwood told My Fox Austin , “We came around Silver Creek looking for the lot and my wife said, ‘David… I think the house is gone.’ We looked up there and sure enough, it’s gone!”
Forth Worth authorities, have admitted that the blunder was their fault, and they are now investigating the matter with the contracted demolition team.
A prepared statement from the city’s code compliance office stated, “On July 12, contractors demolished the wrong property on Watercress Drive. The property to be demolished should have been 9708 Watercress Dr. The property that was demolished was a vacant structure located at 9716 Watercress Dr.”
It is believed that the confusion escalated due to the fact that Mr Underwood’s house, which is a three-bed ranch-style building, was also vacant. However, it wasn’t going to be for much longer, as Mr Underwood and his wife planned to move into the abode after they’d refurbished it.
The 9708 property had been condemned and was awaiting demolition after the decision was announced in January.
Mr Underwood also lost several possessions of his, which included an antique mirror, a desk and some books. Forth Worth city is now investigating how this mistake ever took place, whilst David Underwood is in the process of filing a claim for compensation with the city’s risk management department.
