A Mississippi inmate went down in history for ordering the largest death rowmeal ever. The man named Gary Carl Simmons Jr. was convicted of murder and rape and was set to be executed when he was requested his last meal. The food that the inmate asked for amounted to 29,000 calories.
Simmon was given the death penalty in 1997 for the heinous crimes that he committed. He was found guilty of murder, rape, and capital murder. The man he killed was named Jefferey Wolfe, who was 21 at the time. Wolfe and his girlfriend were paying Simmons a visit to collect a drug debt.
The interaction turned into a heated argument soon after the couple arrived there. Simmons told them that he did not have the money to pay the debt back, which led matters to escalate. Soon after, Wolfe was shot dead by Simmons using a .22-caliber rifle.
He did not stop there, the man then held Wolfe’s girlfriend captive in a footlocker. Court documents later revealed that Simmons raped her while she was held hostage. He also managed to dump the Wolfe’s corpse in alligator-infested waters, which went unnoticed at the time. The woman who was being held captive managed to escape and seek help from a neighboring house.
Simmons was eventually convicted of his crimes and given the death penalty. He spent 15 years in the Mississippi State Penitentiary while on the death row. When his time to be executed came, he ordered an indulgent meal that made history.
The inmate ordered a medium Super Supreme Deep Dish Pizza, double portion, with mushrooms, onions, jalapeño peppers, and pepperoni from Pizza Hut. He also requested a Pizza, regular portion, with three cheeses, olives, bell pepper, tomato, garlic, and Italian sausage. His McDonalds order contained fries, super-sized, with extra ketchup and mayonnaise.

The inmate reportedly finished half of his death row meal in one sitting. He also reportedly tried a “bit of everything.” Simmons was executed at 6 pm on 20 June 2012.
Offering death row meals to the inmates who are on death row is a common practice in several countries around the world. Texas decided to change the rule in 2011 after what a criminal named Lawrence Russell Brewer did. The inmate reportedly ordered a massive food order, only to end up rejecting the food when it was offered to him. This led to the practice coming to a halt altogether.
