David O. Russell apparently wrote a horror script. At some point along the way, Cabin Fever and Hostel filmmaker Eli Roth’s name got tossed around as a possible director.
Although he’s best know for his award-winning dramas and comedies, the Silver Linings Playbook director wrote a scary movie. During a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter , Russell said the Hemlock Grove producer could bring the project to the big screen.
The American Hustle director explained:
“I wrote a couple of things that someone might make, Eli Roth may actually do one, I wrote a horror a few years ago. It’ll be coupled with Eli Roth, that’s exciting to me. Because I had to write to support myself… I wrote a horror [film] for producer Colleen Camp a horror film that I thought was interesting. And Eli thinks its interesting. I think he’s going to make it more interesting – I don’t wanna say anything more, I’ll let Eli talk about it.”
So what does a David O. Russell horror movie look like? Unfortunately for fans of the director, he didn’t give away any specific details about the story. Since his other cinematic endeavors are extremely smart and well-written, it’s doubtful this script is as uninspired and lifeless as most genre efforts these days.
According to Screen Crush , Eli Roth hasn’t said a word about possibly directing this David O. Russell project. Until one of the guys decides to spill the proverbial beans about the flick, fans will just have to use their fertile imaginations.
Russell’s next project, the star-studded dramatic comedy American Hustle , should hit select theaters next month. The movie brings together frequent collaborators Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence for yet another go-around. The director is also reportedly working on the Ends of the Earth with Lawrence as well.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight earlier this month, David O. Russell said American Hustle is a continuation of the films he was trying to make following The Fighter .
The filmmaker explained:
“I was very fortunate to get ‘The Fighter.’ And that became the first chapter in all the work I’m doing right now… ‘Silver Linings,’ to me, was another chapter of a similar world. Of people, and a family, and a community, and a home, who speak a certain way and who are very emotional and very intense, in ways that I find fascinating. The new movie, ‘American Hustle,’ is a third chapter of that, to me. It’s the biggest world in a way.”
