David Letterman just couldn’t stop himself from poking fun at Donald Trump and his recent gaffes . The Late Show host even crawled out of retirement to make a surprise visit to Martin Short and Steve Martin’s A Very Stupid Conversation stage show to mock the self-proclaimed presidential candidate.
The veteran late night show host took center stage at the Majestic Theatre stage Friday in San Antonio to take more than a few verbal jabs at Donald Trump, who has been embroiled in some pretty nasty situations over this past few weeks. Trump has been a regular target for Letterman over the years. Letterman’s appearance on a show featuring Steve Martin and Martin Short was his first since he voluntarily stepped down from the anchor position in May of this year, reported Rolling Stone . He gleefully acknowledged the bemused confusion of the audience, saying,
“I know you’re saying to yourselves, ‘Why is he here?’ By the way, I am so happy to be out of the house.”
David Letterman then publicly stated that his retirement was rather ill-timed as he proceeded to pull out one of his signature Top 10 Lists,
“I retired and… I had no regrets. None. I was happy. I’ll make actual friends. I was complacent, I was satisfied, I was content. And then a couple of days ago, Donald Trump said he was running for president. I have made the biggest mistake of my life, ladies and gentlemen, I tell you.”
Some of the major highlights of the list included quips about Donald Trump’s hair, which the media mogul claims is real.
“Number 10: That thing on his head was the gopher in Caddyshack “
In fact, apart from bludgeoning Donald Trump about his comments which have been condemned by Mexico and quite a few illustrious personalities and large corporations as being racist, Letterman restricted himself to joking on, “that thing on his head.”
After he had exhausted the list, Letterman posed for a mandatory selfie with the hosts, but not before he took a swing at the advanced age of all three hosts.
“It looks like a Flomax commercial, doesn’t it?”
David Letterman has been sorely missed by his fans ever since his self-accepted retirement from late night shows where the iconic host has discussed myriad issues with a comical as well as satirical touch. Hence it was a huge surprise when Letterman showed up on stage, reported USA Today . He even sat down with the Martins for an impromptu chat session.
