David Hasselhoff may really want to play Nick Fury one more time, but the Hoff didn’t mean to hassle the current Avengers title holder Samuel L. Jackson.
While David Hasselhoff admits he was disappointed, he also didn’t mean to take a shot at Jackson in his recent comments on 2012 casting for The Avengers.
Speaking to Yahoo, The Hoff explained that he felt sad feels when he was passed over in favor of Samuel L. Jackson for Joss Whedon’s The Avengers , ranting :
“I was the first Nick Fury. Stan Lee put me in that. He gave me the best line ever: ‘Guys like you tend to cling to the bowl no matter how many times you flush.’ ”
Hasselhoff continued:
“Stan Lee came on the set and told me all about Nick. He said ‘You’re the ultimate Nick Fury.’ He gave me the greatest compliment ever.”
As for whether Jackson did the role justice, David Hasselhoff had an opinion on that too — he adds:
“He wasn’t really the consummate Nick Fury, the way he was written. And I think that’s a shame because he’s a great character and a funny character.”
The comments caused a stir, as Hasselhoff seemed to be taking a big shot at Jackson’s turn as the character in the well-received Avengers blockbuster.
The Hoff was forced to clear up the brewing drama via Twitter at which time he clarified:
Set the record straight..Samuel Jackson is one of my favorite actors, a friend and I wish him well in all his roles especially Nick Fury!
