Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is looking forward to the upcoming NFL Draft. He’s even behaving himself in free agency because he feels that he can patch up holes on the roster with players from the college ranks. Fortunately for Jones, the National Football League helps teams compensate for losses in free agency. According to NFL.com, the Cowboys are being rewarded with four additional draft picks to use this year.
The Dallas Cowboys have been given an addition fourth round draft pick and three selections in the sixth round. That means that they will be choosing 135th, 212th, 216th and 217th overall. It’s hard to find contributors in the sixth round, but it’s not impossible. In the rare instance, you can find a superstar that late, such as the New England Patriots did when they chose future hall of fame quarterback Tom Brady from the Michigan Wolverines.
At least one defensive lineman will be a part of the upcoming draft class for the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones has made that his top priority this off season. He witnessed what the Denver Broncos were able to do to Cam Newton in the Super Bowl with Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware. The Cowboys have been linked to Ohio State Buckeyes defensive end Joey Bosa, a very talented but sometimes troubled player.
Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne have been quite the disappointment for the Dallas Cowboys. Orlando Scandrick seems to be the only corner back that the team can trust. Since the Cowboys pass rush has been inadequate as of late, the need for defensive backs that can shut down wide receivers and tight ends becomes even greater. Expect Dallas to take a handful of defensive backs in this upcoming NFL Draft.
Unless someone like Peyton Manning comes walking through the door, the NFL Draft can be very much a crap shoot. You gamble on a group of players and hope that some of them become contributors for your team. Many won’t even come close to making the official game day roster. However, every once in a while, you roll the dice and find someone that becomes a foundation piece for your franchise. That’s what the Dallas Cowboys are likely wishing for.
