A Michigan teen beat up a 14-year-old and posted a video of it on TikTok, captioning it “round two.” The accused, identified as 18-year-old Amanda Jones, appeared in court on October 10, 2025. She faced a 93-day misdemeanor assault and battery charge.

Jones may have thought she would be let go easily without severe punishment, but Judge Hartel was in the courtroom to serve justice. The judge was furious after he found out she kicked and kneed the victim in the fetal position. This started when someone else said something about a person’s deceased mother. So the arguments did not even involve the two but ended in a violent altercation.

She pleaded no contest to the charges in court. The initial suggested verdict was to delay the sentence with a full dismissal if the defendant is successful in the delay. It would entirely depend on the probation conditions and whether she violated the terms.

The judge noted, “This is going to be a no-contest plea due to potential civil liability.” he added, “What that means is that the alleged victim in this case could potentially sue you for any damages that she’s incurred. A no-contest plea allows me to read a document, it looks like it’s going to be a police report, and use that police report to determine whether or not there’s a factual basis to accept the plea and to use that for sentencing purposes.”

The victim did not have injuries, but could sue the accused in the future. So a guilty plea could be used against her in court if the victim sued her in the future. The judge still asked her, “How do you plead to committing the offense of assault and/or assault and battery?” She responded, “No contest. “

This was a part of the Killebrew agreement, according to which a prosecutor can recommend a sentence in exchange for a plea. Here, the verdict was expected to be a delayed sentence, and Jones was to go on probation. But the judge decided to set her case for sentencing and allow the attorneys to work on a memorandum. He added, “I cannot in good conscience let this just get for all intents and purposes swept under the rug.” he warned if he lets her go she may have another case coming up in the future, calling the incident ‘not a one-time mistake.’

At the end, the judge could not agree with what the two attorneys on the case had worked out. The judge saw that there were deep-rooted issues and not just violence towards a 14-year-old. Not only did she hit the teen, but she also bragged about it on TikTok.

This proved she had no remorse and was completely aware of her actions. The exhibition of violence made her decisions even worse, and there was no way she could be allowed to walk out of the courtroom.

The incident and the courtroom video went viral, with several viewers calling out the bully. One viewer commented, “Beating a 14-year-old is bad enough…posting it on TikTok sent this judge over the edge, and rightly so.” Another one pointed out, ” The 18-year-old has two lawyers on her side, the prosecutor and her defender! Thank God that judge is there to put a stop to it!”

Many appreciated the judge, “A judge who showed up for WORK, and JUSTICE! Good man.” Another one commented, “In today’s world, we need more judges like this — judges who dig deeper and seek the truth, instead of just brushing off cases.”
