Now that it’s November, those of you patiently waiting for the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta are probably wondering where the beta is. Well, as you may have guessed, it’s been pushed back.
According to Valve’s Chet Faliszek, Valve came to the decision to hold back the beta due to feedback from professional Counter-Strike 1.6 players after they had some (very) early hands on time with the game.
Valve is trying to make Counter-Strike: GO cater to the competitive FPS scene, and to do that they’d naturally need to make sure that the players are interested in playing it first, so they opted to give a select few early access so they can get constructive feedback.
“They gave us a lot of feedback on things we should get in the game before we release it, otherwise we’re going to be getting a lot of bug reports or a lot of feedback and it would just be redundant,” Faliszek told Kyle “Ksharp” Miller and Ronald “Rambo” Kim in an interview (via Eurogamer).
As for when Valve plans on starting the beta, Faliszek didn’t say. Right now, the team is working on nailing the “feel” of CSGO , and hammering out a few issues players have been reporting in early access previews.
While we don’t know when the beta will start, Faliszek did say that when the beta does begin, Valve plans on inviting upwards of 10,000 players to the beta initially. As the beta moves forward and Valve addresses issues and adds features, more and more players will be added until Valve opens the beta for all.
Faliszek added that there’s no planned end date for the beta, and that Valve will only release it when they feel like it’s as polished and feature complete as possible.
