Just got this email from an Apple Reseller in Australia:

Just a quick note to alert you of the rumoured announcement by Apple of the release of the Australian Compatible 3G iPhone.
We will be sending a detailed emailout after the keynote explaining the features of all the new products and how they will revolutionize they way we communicate in the future.
These are exciting times for all.

The fact that resellers are stocking them may also suggest that in Australia at least, the 3G iPhone will be unlocked.
They also included the picture to the right: I’ve held my iPhone up against the screen and it appears different, the volume control and silent switch on the side appear to be close in and the chrome edge area wider. It may be an optical illusion, but I cant recreate the spacing in the pic with my phone no matter how hard I try. An official pic of the 3G iPhone perhaps? Maybe.
