Actress Cobie Smulders opened up in a recent interview about her past battle with ovarian cancer, which was kept away from the public eye.
The 33-year-old Avengers: Age of Ultron actress revealed this private part of her life story during an interview with Women’s Health magazine for the May issue.

According to the report, Smulders was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 25.
“I had tumors on both ovaries, and the cancer had spread into my lymph nodes and surrounding tissues.”
Smulders underwent multiple surgeries in the two years that followed her diagnosis. During that time, Cobie starred as Robin Scherbatsky on the long-running hit CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother .

The surgeries must have been successful because Cobie was able to welcome her first child with SNL actor Taran Killam in May of 2009.
Cobie and Taran became engaged over the holiday season leading into 2009, and they were married in 2012.

Earlier this year, Cobie gave birth to the couple’s second child. He is now 3-months-old.
A vast amount of time has now passed since Cobie Smulders was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer. During that time, she has given birth to two children. However, Cobie admits that she still does not feel as if she is “cancer-free.”
“I don’t think I’ll ever feel like I’m cancer-free. Now that I’m five years out, I’m trying to think of it as a positive thing and what can I learn from it. And if I can create more awareness, I’ll do it.”
According to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, there were nearly 22,000 new cases of this disease reported last year in the United States alone. During the same year, over 14,000 people in the U.S. died from it.
Even though Cobie Smulders was diagnosed at the age of 25, studies have shown that ovarian cancer is most commonly found in women between the ages of 55 and 64.
