Christopher Dorner’s charred human remains may have been found in the burned cabin. As previously reported by The Inquisitr , the Christopher Dorner shootout may have ended in a controversial manner since police were recorded saying to “get the gas. Burn it down.”
According to NBC News , “investigators discovered Christopher Dorner’s charred human remains late Tuesday within a torched California mountain cabin where police sources say ex-cop Christopher Dorner barricaded himself after a deadly shootout with sheriff’s deputies.”
In a statement, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said that identification of the charred body would be attempted “through forensic means.” Earlier, San Bernardino Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said authorities believed the suspect was still inside the cabin when the inferno began:
“We have reason to believe that it is him.”
A single gunshot was heard from within the cabin after it burst into flames, putting an end to the biggest manhunt in LAPD history.
According to the Guardian , L.A. police chief, Charlie Beck, believes that charred human remains are definitely that of Christopher Dorner:
“People on the scene are as confident as they can be without seeing the body that it is Dorner inside. It is a bittersweet night. This could have ended much better, it could have ended worse. I feel for the family of the deputy who lost his life.”
Christopher Dorner, an ex-cop and Navy reservist, detailed his plans and hit list in a 26-page manifesto that rambled on about many subjects, even giving Tim Tebow career advice . Still, Dorner made it very clear he did not plan on being taken alive:
“Self Preservation is no longer important to me. I do not fear death as I died long ago on 1/2/09.”
Dorner was fired from the LAPD on September 4, 2008 after filing a report on the conduct of fellow police officer, Teresa Evans. In the report, Dorner accused Officer Evans of kicking suspect Christopher Gettler in the face while he was handcuffed and lying on the ground.
During the Dorner manhunt, police have mistakenly shot innocent bystanders , including several Dorner look-alikes that were actually Latino women .
