Outspoken New Jersey Governor Chris Christie slammed Warren Buffet in a recent interview. Speaking to CNN’s Pierce Morgan, Christie was asked about Warren Buffet’s claim that he paid a lower tax rate than his secretary and that he wants to be taxed at a higher rate.
Christie responded with,
“He should just write [the government] a check and shut up. I’m tired of hearing about it. If he wants to give the government more money, he’s got the ability to write a check. Go ahead and write it”
President Obama and Warren Buffet have both been speaking out in favor of a new law that would be refereed to as the “Buffet Rule” under this plan all people making more than $1 million dollars a year would be subject to a 30% tax rate regardless of how that income was earned or what type of deductions are claimed.
Christie, a Republican, is in favor of an across the board income tax reduction in New Jersey on 10%. This puts him in line with most conservatives in the country who are also looking to slash taxes on all income brackets.
Christie joins a long list of conservatives who have criticized Buffet for his stance on taxes. The United Stated Internal Revenue Service has a mechanism in place for individuals to donate as much money as they wish to the government. Every year Americans give more than $2 million dollars to the causes of the federal budget.
