New York City, NY- The family of 26 year-old Rajwinder Kaur is extremely concerned for the wellbeing of the missing New York woman after they received a disturbing text message from her phone number, only two hours after the young woman went missing.

The message, although short and vague is extremely chilling, reports CBS New York:

“The girl with this phone is dead was smiling.”

Police officials report the missing 26 year-old was last seen at her Queens home Sunday at 8 p.m. when she left to volunteer at a Brooklyn shelter.

Rajwinder’s youngest sister, Gurpreet, received the disturbing message at 9:40 p.m.

According to WCSH6, law enforcement officials had been able to track Kaur’s phone to Brooklyn Sunday night before it was then shut off and are currently in the process of obtaining a warrant in order to go through the missing woman’s personal emails.

Before she disappeared, Kaur had reportedly sold much of her family possessions on Ebay leading police to believe she may have joined a cult and the message means ‘the old Rajwinder is dead to you, the new Rajwinda is with us.’

According to her family, the young Rajwinder had also become more spiritual after going on a trip to India last winter, however, they do not believe she would have disappeared so abruptly of her own free will.

Rajwinder is described as 5-foot-3 and 130 pounds with a thin build and medium complexion.

Family members have posted fliers around the neighborhood and in Brooklyn near places where Kaur volunteered and are offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to her safe return.

Anyone with information in regards to this missing is asked to call Crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577
