Carrie Underwood is giving fans a blast from the past and reuniting with Paula Abdul amid rumors she’s one of American Idol’s top judging picks for the upcoming reboot.

As the rumors swirl that Underwood could potentially head back to the show that made her a household name when it returns to screens in 2018, Carrie gave fans a little nostalgia on social media after she ran into original judge Paula backstage at her Tennessee concert.

Paula took to Twitter to give fans a glimpse at herself and Underwood posing backstage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on May 17, where Abdul was performing as part of her “The Total Package Tour” with New Kids On The Block and Boyz II Men.

“So happy to reunite with the amazingly talented and equally beautiful [Carrie Underwood] tonight. So proud of your journey,” Paula captioned the photo with her long time friend that showed her embracing Underwood with a big hug, after which Carrie shared a sweet message of her own on her own Twitter page for the star she first met back in 2004 when she auditioned for the show in St. Louis.

“Well, look who I ran into backstage at #TheTotalPackage Tour!” Carrie tweeted in response, reposting the sweet reunion photo with the former American Idol judge to her own account and adding that it was “so cool to watch her do her thing!”

And it looked like Carrie had a pretty great time during her night out in Nashville, as Underwood also revealed on the social media site that she actually headed up on stage to perform with New Kids On The Block during the May 17 concert.

“Um… did I just sing happy birthday to @dannywood and @jordanknight on stage with the NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK?!?!” Carrie wrote online during the show of her on-stage encounter with the boyband. “Yup!”

Underwood’s night with the New Kids On The Block and Abdul comes amid a whole lot of rumors that Carrie is allegedly at the top of ABC’s wish list when it comes to potential judges for the upcoming 2018 reboot of American Idol , the show that made the “Good Girl” singer a household name after Underwood won Season 4 of the singing competition back in 2005.

Carrie Underwood hasn’t spoken out regarding the rampant speculation, though Variety claimed earlier this week that Carrie has allegedly already “held talks with ABC and producers about joining American Idol as a judge” and suggested that Underwood could potentially return to the show as a judge next year.

But could Carrie have been dropping hints that she was taking judging tips from Paula after Katy Perry confirmed earlier this week that she will be a judge when the show returns?

Notably, Abdul too has been linked to a role on the new version of American Idol as it moves from Fox to ABC, as she told E! News ahead of her big reunion with Underwood that she is “excited” that the show would be coming back to TV after she famously left the judging panel in 2009.

“ Idol was and still is one of the most life changing experiences for me. I’m so beyond proud to have been there since the inception of it,” Abdul told the outlet ahead of her reunion with Underwood and amid rumors she too could potentially be in the running to regain her seat on the judging panel of the show, which ran for 15 seasons on Fox before its initial cancelation in 2016.

“I think ABC is a great home for [ American Idol] . I’m excited for Idol ,” Paula continued of the show that made both herself and Underwood household names. “All the way around—ABC, Disney, and the record label it’s a great home for Idol . I’m forever a fan. I’m just finding out the same way as everyone else and it’s very exciting.”

However, Paula played a little coyer when asked if she would return to the show amid rumors Carrie has already been in talks with producers, simply telling the outlet, “I have no idea!”

Would you like to see Paula or Carrie on American Idol when it returns in 2018? What do you think of Paula Abdul and Carrie Undrwood’s sweet reunion?
