Ahead of its late-December final curtain, stage and screen vet Carol Burnett will reprise her longtime-recurring role on ABC’s soap All My Children in appearances today and tomorrow.
All My Children has been a fixture of the daytime lineup on ABC for four decades, and its final episode will air on September 26th. Burnett, now 78, has been a fan of the show for much of its run- so much so that a role was created specifically for her many years ago. Burnett debuted on the show in 1983 playing the meddling Verla Grubbs, and throughout the 80’s, appeared in its storylines, reprising the role.
All My Children executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers commented on Burnett’s final appearance before the show’s last airing later this month:
“It is our honor and pleasure to welcome back Carol Burnett to Pine Valley. Verla Grubbs is a beloved member of the All My Children family and we look forward to reprising her character.”
After 40 years, All My Children will be replaced by chat-show The Chew at the end of September. Much handwringing has ensued over the show’s cancellation, and FarmVille and its distracting effects on the predominantly female, stay-at-home viewership of the show was briefly blamed after its somewhat shocking cancellation.
Earlier this week, All My Children star Susan Lucci made headlines when she lashed out at ABC daytime execs for canceling the long-running soap in a stunning epilogue to her book All My Life.
