Bryan Cranston Lands ‘Power Rangers’ Role As Zordon, Breaks The Internet

Breaking Bad alumni Bryan Cranston is returning to Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers . Yes, he’s returning, but in a different role than before. He was once a voice actor for a couple of villains in 1993’s original series, playing the roles of Twinman and Snizard. He was uncredited on the show, but he apparently made enough of a mark on the cast that they named one of the teenage characters after him.

Billy Cranston was the result of Bryan’s role, over a decade before the actor grew to infamy as the near Shakespearean actor behind Walter White. Now, he’s back for the Power Rangers movie, playing a much more unmistakable role. Bryan Cranston will be playing Zordon, the man who communicates with the teens from Angel Grove and gives them their missions.

Of course, fans are probably hoping Zordon will take a special interest in the Blue Ranger, Billy , just to pay homage to his most famous role. In Breaking Bad , Cranston played a high school chemistry teacher, who became a drug kingpin known for his blue methamphetamine.

Others across the Internet have been holding out on the reboot film, believing that movies based on things they enjoyed as children are going to ruin their fond memories. Cranston also played a small, but significant, part in the 2014 film Godzilla , and it was considered a return to form. Fans of the film have considered checking the movie out now, possibly out of morbid curiosity to see how Bryan pulls off the role.

Also cast for the film are Dacre Montgomery ( A Few Less Men ) as Red Ranger Jason, RJ Cyler ( Me and Earl and the Dying Girl ) as Blue Ranger Billy, Naomi Scott ( The 33 ) as Pink Ranger Kimberly, Becky G ( Empire ) as Yellow Ranger Trini, Ludi Lin ( Monster Hunt ) as Black Ranger Zack, and Elizabeth Banks ( The Hunger Games ) as villain Rita Repulsa.

The cast appears to be diverse, without seemingly racist Power Ranger costume color assignments nor any “whitewashing.” Casting Bryan Cranston as Zordon only seems to add a level of class to the cast, though he’s proven he is also right at home being funny. His interview with Jimmy Fallon to promote Trumbo proved this, as he took the whole bath tub scenario all the way.
