Britney Spears The Next ‘Bachelorette’? Rumor Claims The Pop Star Wants To Look For Love On ABC Reality Show

Britney Spears is reportedly trying to become the next Bachelorette, giving the pop star the chance to find a new husband in front of America on the ABC reality show.

A onetime staple of reality television, Spears is reportedly hoping to find her way back into the spotlight by being the main contestant on the popular dating show.

A new report from In Touch Weekly claims that Britney Spears thinks being on The Bachelorette would be a great move for her both personally and professionally. To those unfamiliar, the show involves a contestant who has the chance to choose from close to two dozen potential suitors, gradually eliminating them through a series of dates and visits home until she chooses (or doesn’t) to get engaged to one of them.

The show consistently scores big ratings and has a tendency to make stars out of the previously unknown contestants. While there have been some semi-famous contestants (including the brother of Jerry O’Connell as a previous Bachelor and the brother of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers competing for JoJo Fletcher’s hand in the latest iteration of The Bachelorette ), there are generally not “celebrity” contestants featured.

The report claims that Britney Spears thinks she would be perfect for the role.

“[Britney] is begging her father to let her do a reality show that focuses on her finding a husband,” a source told In Touch Weekly (via Hollywood Life ). “She’s a huge fan of The Bachelor and thinks it would be really fun.”

Spears has been single for more than a year now after her June 2015 split with television producer Charlie Ebersol. The couple had appeared to be doing well and on track toward a possible marriage, often sharing happy pictures together on social media.

But there were reportedly problems kept from the public, leading to their abrupt split.

“It was obvious to everyone that it was going to happen,” an Ebersol family source told People magazine. “They’re still friends.”

Others close to Spears and Ebersol echoed the sentiment that there was no animosity, saying that their busy lives just made it too difficult for the relationship to work.

“Relationships are hard. Sometimes they don’t work out,” another source told People. “These are two very busy people leading two very busy lives. They’re focusing on other priorities right now.”

While it’s not certain whether Britney Spears would be up for making her love life a matter of public consumption again, she hasn’t been shy to invite the cameras inside her home in the past. She is an alum of a string of reality shows, including Britney and Kevin: Chaotic, in which viewers got a glimpse into her short-lived marriage to Kevin Federline.

There have been past rumors that Britney Spears is angling for another reality show. A February report from OK! magazine claimed that she wanted to be featured in a show about life as a single mom. Gossip Cop threw cold water on that rumor, however.

“The tabloid further claim that Spears’ dad, Jamie, isn’t on board with the supposed idea. The magazine’s supposed source says, ‘The last thing he wants is for Britney to embarrass herself or be taken advantage of.’ But Gossip Cop spoke with a source close to the singer, who exclusively assures us that Spears has not been pitched a reality show, and the tabloid’s story is simply ‘false.'”

If it’s true that Britney Spears wants to be the next Bachelorette, it would take quite a while longer for fans to find out. Producers of the ABC reality show haven’t announced when the show’s next run will be after the current season featuring JoJo Fletcher, and a contestant wouldn’t be selected until the end of the current season at the very earliest.
