Boxee didn’t have the best run at the ‘smart tv’ market when it first debuted. The company simply didn’t have the backing to take on Apple TV, Google TV, Roku and other competitors in the space. Now Boxee TV has returned and instead of focusing on streaming multimedia content from local storage and the web the company is offering a platform based on live TV content. Boxee TV features support for such content providers as ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and other channels in high definition.

The Boxee TV also includes a DVR and offers Internet Apps that connect to HDTV.

Using the device required an antenna or an unencrypted basic cable line which hook u to the Boxee TV.

Increasing the devices strength are dual tuners which allow for the watching of one show while recording a second show at the same time. Recordings are stored on a cloud-based storage server. Because files are stored remotely Boxee is calling its DVR service a “No Limits” platform.

The best part about Boxee cloud storage might be the fact that users can access their saved programs via notebooks, tablets, desktops, and their TV.

No Limits DVR will only be available in eight cities in 2012, those cities include: New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia and DC.

Boxee TV service requires a $15/month fee.

Already installed on the Boxee system are Netflix , Vudu, YouTube, Vimeo, and Pandora, among others.

At just $99 the Boxee TV will start shipping to U.S. customers sometime in November.
