After several years of false rumors of Beyonce and Jay-Z spawning, we learned dramatically at the MTV Video Music Awards that Bey was indeed pregnant with the couple’s much-awaited first child.
Now that the secret is out, Beyonce has been speaking to press about her excitement, baby plans, Jay’s reaction and even rumors that she at least in part enhanced her pregnant look to grab headlines. (A suggestion she says is “so far out” it doesn’t warrant comment.)
But rumors definitely get up to the singer from time to time- most notably for Beyonce, on a recent flight. She recounts:
“I was on a plane and the flight attendant came and was like, ‘I have your hot sauce and pickles and bananas.’ And I’m like, ‘That is absolutely disgusting, what are you doing?’ He’s like, ‘I read it on the Internet.”
Of her decision to silently announce her good news at the VMA, Beyonce told Katie Couric:
“Physically I was starting to show, so it was only a matter of days before someone zoomed in… So I just wanted it to be from me, and I wanted it to be something that was a celebration of something so beautiful. And I didn’t want to release a picture or a statement. I figured the biggest statement was to- just be.”
Afterwards, Beyonce says she was fully able to relax and enjoy her baby joy. She describes:
“…I just felt free. I really did because I’d been holding the most exciting thing in for so long, and I just felt like, Wow, now I can enjoy, and now I can just experience this the way that every woman should. So I felt so liberated, and I felt like, Oh, I can breathe and be happy.’ And, you know, it was a beautiful feeling. … I went straight off the stage and just cried. I hugged my mom, I hugged Jay and just cried. It was a beautiful day.”
Bey declined to confirm former bandmate Kelly Rowland’s assertion that the baby is a girl, and she has not disclosed when the child is due to arrive.
