The Pittsburgh Steelers were just a few seconds away from a playoff spot last night when Ben Roethlisberger threw an inexplicable interception.

With 20 seconds left in a tied game and the ball back at the Steelers’ 29, Roethlisberger decided to push the ball down the field. The Steelers QB overthrew Mike Wallace and the pass was intercepted by Cincinnati’s Reggie Nelson. A quick pass and a field goal after that gave the Bengals the win and ended the Steelers playoff hopes.

After the game, Roethlisberger took the blame for the pass, saying :

“Disappointment, pain, letting a lot of people down … It doesn’t feel good.”

The interception comes just a few days after the Steelers QB criticized offensive coordinator Todd Haley . Roethlisberger criticized Haley for running a “fumbling-based offense.” After the Steelers’ loss last night, however, Roethlisberger wasn’t pointing fingers at anyone but himself.

Roethlisberger said :

“I feel like we have a lot of really good guys out there on offense. They played well. They need more play, and better play from the quarterback.”

Roethlisberger may be taking the blame for his pass last night, but Coach Tomlin said that there were plenty of mistakes made over the season to force the Steelers out of the playoffs.

Tomblin said:

“Not our day and thus, not our year. Just not enough significant plays at the moments. Sounds like a broken record but reality as we sit here.”

Here’s a video of Ben Roethlisberger’s interception last night.
