Ben Carson is one of the most decorated, but equally controversial, politicians in the United States Republican Party. Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1951, he quit his bid for the presidency in March this year and endorsed Donald Trump a week later. He has since been announcing his entry into politics and has been making very controversial comments. Starting with his attack on transgender people in July, he offered the following statement in regard to them while speaking at a convention in Florida.

“You know, we look at this whole transgender thing. I got to tell you: For thousands of years, mankind has known what a man is and what a woman is. And now, all of a sudden we don’t know anymore. Now, is that the height of absurdity? Because today you feel like a woman, even though everything about you genetically says that you’re a man or vice versa?”

“Wouldn’t that be the same as if you woke up tomorrow morning after seeing a movie about Afghanistan or reading some books and said, “You know what? I’m Afghanistan [sic]. I know I don’t look that way. My ancestors came from Sweden, or something, I don’t know. But I really am. And if you say I’m not, you’re a racist.” This is how absurd we have become!”

This is as reported by the Independent . A few months ago, Ben Carson attacked Khizr and Ghazala Khan after they publicly denounced Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, while giving a speech at the Democratic National Convention. The couple’s son was killed in Iraq while fighting for the Unites States, a point that the two were keen to highlight, given Donald Trump’s attack on Muslim immigrants in the U.S. As usual, Donald Trump hit back with tweets, the following were the first two.

“This story is not about Mr. Khan, who is all over the place doing interviews, but rather RADICAL ISLAMIC TERRORISM and the U.S. Get smart!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 1, 2016

Mr. Khan, who does not know me, viciously attacked me from the stage of the DNC and is now all over T.V. doing the same – Nice!

Many thought Trump’s response to be a bad idea, including Paul Manafort, his campaign manager. However, Ben Carson defended Trump on CNN stating that the Khans and Donald Trump should apologize to one another. Asked by news anchor Megyn Kelly why the Khans, a Gold Star family that had lost their son should apologize, Ben Carson offered the following statement.

“Well, for one thing, if you accuse someone of something that’s not true, it usually is a reasonable thing to acknowledge that.”

When pressed on the specifics about the falsehoods, Ben Carson stated, “That he [Donald Trump] had never read the Constitution. Where did they get that from? That’s unreasonable.” That said, Khan’s actual statement was, “Let me ask you [Donald Trump]: Have you even read the United States Constitution?”

This is as reported by The Atlantic . On another interview with Fox News Radio , Ben Carson defended Donald Trump’s highly controversial character, stating that the billionaire had two personalities and that the one he portrayed on television was the entertainer. He said that behind the scenes, the presidential candidate was a thoughtful individual. The following was his actual statement as reported by the Washington Post .

“There’s two Donald Trumps. There’s the Donald Trump that you see on television and who gets out in front of big audiences, and there’s the Donald Trump behind the scenes. They’re not the same person. One’s very much an entertainer, and one is actually a thinking individual.”
