With the DC Comics Universe set to expand in the coming years, it is pretty well established that the majority of the upcoming films will be connected to each other at some level. In fact, with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad set to be released next year, both films will share a number of interesting connections. With that in mind, here are a few ways in which the two films are related.
According to Movie Pilot, one of the biggest connections will center on the past history between Batman (Ben Affleck) and The Joker (Jared Leto ). In fact, these two characters will be a major point of connection between the movies.
Although The Joker is not expected to play a large part in either movie, he has been included in both both trailers. His inclusion in the trailers seems to indicate that The Joker will provide some kind of backstory for the movies to build on. In particular, his interactions with Batman and a certain sidekick will be a major focus here.
At the same time, The Joker was also featured in the trailer for Suicide Squad. Although his role in the movie will likely center on Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie ), the music in the trailer alludes to the message that was written on Robin’s suit. Additionally, there has been leaks of a scene involving a car chase between Batman and The Joker, which means the two characters will at least briefly face off in the film.

According to Cinema Blend , this idea that the Suicide Squad is formed in order to take down Batman has some evidence to back it up. Apparently, the government officials led by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) have video footage of Batman committing acts of violence and vigilantism. In order to keep tabs on him and prevent him from taking the law in his own hands, Waller forms the group to take him down.
If Batman is the main “villain” in the movie, then it does make sense that Waller’s group would include villains that the caped crusader put away. Not only would they have some inside information about Batman and his tendencies, but they would also have motivation to get the job done without trying to escape.
Additionally, this would give Waller some deniability in the event that the group of villains do not succeed in taking out Batman. Either way, the idea that Batman will the group’s main target is definitely an interesting one that could have an impact on Batman’s characteristics in Batman v Superman.
Speaking of interesting theories, it has been mentioned that Suicide Squad is actually a prequel to the events in Batman v Superman. It is known that the events in Batman v Superman are late in Batman’s life, as Affleck’s version of the caped crusader is a grizzled veteran. If Suicide Squad is a prequel, then it certainly opens up the door for more connections with Batman v Superman and other films, including Justice League.
