Apple’s MacBook, The MacBook Air Killer, Arrives In High Quantities At Apple Stores

If you wanted Apple’s new MacBook, the 12-inch laptop that has been called an eventual MacBook Air killer, chances are you had a hard time finding the exact model and color you wanted since the device was released back in March. Now, Mac Rumors has some good news .

“Nearly four months after release, the new 12-inch MacBook is starting to become available for personal pickup in Apple Stores in the United States. Previously, some stores have had sporadic stock for walk-in customers, but it now appears that stock is substantial enough for Apple to offer personal pickup.”

MacRumors goes on to note that while some Apple Stores and Best Buys have had sporadic stock for walk-ins, most Apple Stores worldwide have only had the unit on display. Salespeople at the Apple Store have been telling disappointed customers they can order online, leading to even more disappointment. Although the MacBook is a design and portability triumph, one may want to wait until the next generation MacBook comes out as the first one has received mixed reviews. Business Insider notes how the MacBook may seem disappointing, but is really the laptop of the future.

“But the real story with the new MacBook is we’re getting a taste of what the future of computers will look like. External drives won’t matter as we store more stuff in cloud services like Dropbox. Zippy processors won’t matter as we do more and more tasks in a web browser instead of desktop apps.”

Business Insider adds that this is a similar vision to what Google has for desktop computing, and one of the reasons why Chromebooks continue to get more and more popular. They believe the new MacBook may not be ideal now, but it will soon be all you need. Wired refers to Apple’s new MacBook as a “ conflicted beauty .”

“Falling for Apple’s latest MacBook is like falling hard and fast for someone totally inappropriate. You know deep down that you’re being seduced by glamour and beauty and charisma against your better judgement, but ultimately, that doesn’t change how you feel.”

Wired goes on to compliment the design and battery life of the device, but — like others — believes it is underpowered. Still, the MacBook will definitely catch eyes just like holding a golden retriever on a park bench would do. It’s quite likely that once Apple is able to upgrade the processor and speed of its new MacBook, the MacBook Air will become irrelevant. Do you have Apple’s new MacBook?
