Franchise star Anna Faris made her comeback to the Scary Movie franchise nearly 25 years later, in which she reprised her character of Cindy Campbell. She detailed the update in her character during a promotional interaction, while she stated how she intended to play Cindy with “MAGA” stereotypes that were clearly referenced from Melania Trump. She went on to reveal a joke about the FLOTUS that didn’t make it to the final cut.
According to Deadline, while speaking with Dexerto, Anna Faris recalled how she cited the “Be Best” campaign run by Melania Trump in 2018, where he spoke against cyberbullying. It was notably controversial at the time as critics pointed out that President Donald Trump himself has often used sharp language in his social media posts.

She said, “I was always pushing for Cindy to be classic MAGA rabbit hole,” further explaining that it reminded one of the type of person who often caused public disturbances during the quarantine.
She described a moment in the film where her character was “wasted” and was heavily drunk. “And then I look — I’m in my truck, of course — and I look into the rearview mirror, and I say, ‘Be best, Cindy Campbell. Be best.’ That didn’t make it, but I liked my little winking there,” she added.
Faris then excitedly stated there was no reason to hold a grudge against Cindy while describing her upcoming venture as the “most offensive movie ever made,” which she is leading. She said she likes to be a part of “offensive ideas” while adding that the film “liberated” her.

The Deadline report also states that Scary Movie does not hesitate in making any controversial humor, with the creators appearing to be unconcerned with who might get offended by the R-rated comedy. However, a politically themed joke was ultimately left out of the final version.
While the actual reason for the joke not making it to the final cut remains unknown, one can expect it to resurface once the film returns to home entertainment.
Meanwhile, according to Female First, in another interview with AMC Theatres, Faris admitted that she initially thought she would return for a cameo appearance in the film and she would feel bad and like an “ageing actress in an ageing world.” However, she remembered the film producer Marlon Wayans called and told her that the “gang are back together.”
Wayans recalled calling Anna while mimicking Ghostface from Scream, saying she instantly played along with the joke. He also noted that he and his brother Shawn, who helped create and star in the first two Scary Movie films, never shied away from controversial material and did not remove jokes simply because they might offend some viewers.
The movie has reportedly turned out to be a success at the box office by making over $105 million worldwide against a reported budget of $30 million. However, the critics have not given favorable reviews to the film, and it holds a low approval rating of 25% on Rotten Tomatoes.
