Angelina Jolie has been reflecting on ‘dark times’ in her life, admitting that she regards herself as lucky to be alive.
In an interview with 60 Minutes that airs Sunday, the 36-year-old admits she wasn’t always the landmine-busting, child-rescuing, goody-two-shoes foster mother to the universe that she’s portrayed as nowadays.
There was a time, lest we forget, when she’d wear her husband Billy Bob Thornton’s blood round her neck in a vial, and kiss her own brother in a slightly too intimate manner at the 2000 Academy Awards. Freaky those things might be, but they don’t kill you, right?
“I went through heavy, darker times and I survived them. I didn’t die young. So I am very lucky. There are other artists and people that didn’t survive certain things.”
What could Angelina be talking about? (Yeah, I expect I know as well, but we can’t afford lawyers in the same league as Angelina Jolie’s lawyers, so I’ll just leave that question hanging). When asked to elaborate on the ‘certain things’ part of her sentence, the actress simply shot back with:
“I was hoping you missed that. Nothing I want to go into a lot detail about, but I think people can imagine that I did the most dangerous and I did the worst and admit, for many reasons, I shouldn’t be here. You just think there were too many times where you came too close to too many dangerous things, too many chances taken too, too far.”
Yet she also admitted that her dark side hasn’t disappeared entirely:
“I’m still a bad girl. I still have that side of me. It’s just in its place now. It belongs to Brad. To our adventures.”
