An Amy Winehouse self-portrait made from the late singer’s own blood is to be auctioned off by musician Pete Doherty, a friend and (allegedly) former lover of Winehouse.

The Cob Gallery in London will be running the auction, according to this auction on i-bidder. Doherty, the former lead singer of Libertines and a regular fixture in British newspaper headlines due to his drugs habit and general bad boy image, is selling the painting, a small piece entitled ‘Ladylike,’ alongside items such as instruments, diaries and articles of clothing.

The painting is actually a collaborative effort – i-bidder describes the work thus:

“Ladylike, Personal work by Doherty of his Libertines bandmates. Includes contribution from his, son and a self portrait by Amy Winehouse in her own blood – see detail below., Also signed by Doherty in his blood. Mixed media, 2010.”

‘Ladylike’ is being sold as part of an exhibition of Doherty’s works called ‘On Blood: A Portrait of the Artist.’ You might have already guessed, but blood is sort of a theme, as Doherty confirmed to Gigwise when discussing the exhibition:

“Blood plays the starring role in my work. Sweat and tears are often waiting in the wings.”

The self-portrait alone is anticipated to earn in excess of $100,000, and a chunk of the proceeds will reportedly be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which is rather nice.

Winehouse passed away in her Camden, London home roughly one year ago at the age of 28 from accidental alcohol poisoning.
