‘America’s Got Talent’: Nick Cannon Did What?

America’s Got Talent is currently in its 11th season. In 11 seasons, viewers have seen a lot. But this week’s episode of America’s Got Talent included an act that was like nothing we’ve seen before on the show, and host Nick Cannon felt compelled to break the rules and do something that’s never been done in 11 years of America’s Got Talent.

As Dorothy Williams walked onto the America’s Got Talent stage, we heard, through a voice over, her say, “When I walk onto that stage, I want to prove that you’re never too old to follow your dreams.” Nick escorted her, holding her hand as he led her to her spot on the stage. She wore a red top and long red skirt. Her outfit was accessorized with a red boa, white lace fingerless gloves, and a white hat. She told Simon that she is 90-years-old and informed him that she was going to dance. Howie gave her a sweet smile, like you’d give a 90-year-old woman who wanted to dance, and we waited.

Dorothy began her America’s Got Talent performance with a little song with no instruments.

“Just let me entertain you, and we’ll have a real good time, yes sir. Oh we’ll have a real good time.”

Which was immediately followed by stripping music. Yes, you read that right. Stripping music.

Dorothy started strutting her stuff on the America’s Got Talent stage. Simon’s eyes, and the eyes of everyone watching, opened wide in shock as she rotated her hips. The audience screamed and cheered and laughed as she worked her boa. She slid off the boa and… well, continued her act. Every judge was smiling and laughing, and Dorothy was eating it up. A shot of Nick watching her America’s Got Talent performance showed him encouraging her and saying “Work it out, Dorothy. That’s a star.” Her routine was complete with tassels and drew an “Oh my God” from judge Mel B. Simon hid his face in his hand but couldn’t keep us from seeing him shaking with laughter. He was also the first judge on his feet to applaud her when she was done. The audience was also immediately on their feet.

She looked back at Nick Cannon who yelled to her, “You’re a star baby!”

After the America’s Got Talent audience quieted down a bit, all of the judges gave her rave reviews. Howie Mandel was the last judge to comment, and as he was wrapping up, the America’s Got Talent cameras went to Nick. By the time Howie was done, Nick was on stage with Dorothy. He spoke to the audience.

“Audience, we had a conversation back stage, and Miss Dorothy told me that all she dreamed about all her life was being a star and a moment like this. I told her that a star is born tonight.”

The America’s Got Talent crowd rose and cheered and applauded. Nick began speaking again and they took their seats again. He said the following to Dorothy.

“It’s kind of unfortunate because on this show, each judge gets the opportunity once a season to hit the golden buzzer and an act gets to go straight through to the live shows. But all of the judges have already hit their golden buzzer. But you know what? I don’t care. I’m gonna break the rules.”

Nick jumps off the America’s Got Talent stage, runs to the judge’s table, and pushes the golden buzzer. The audience went crazy, Dorothy clasped her hands and looked down as she was showered with golden confetti. Nick ran back up on the America’s Got Talent stage, put his arm around her, and said, “Let’s go, Miss Dorothy,” as he escorted her off the stage. A memorable night for everyone who saw Miss Dorothy Williams’s performance. Check it out below.
