Now that American Horror Story: Coven is over and done with, we can now focus on the upcoming season four. As usual, there aren’t a lot of things to go on for the new season as details haven’t really been given. It’s believed that shooting may start in June and will return to New Orleans, which is the location the cast shot in the last year.
As for cast members returning to American Horror Story , this will be Jessica Lange’s final bow , as the actress, who has been the backbone of the series, will finish her run on the show after season four is completed. Lange confirmed this news back in October:
“I am coming to the end of acting. I have a list: another stage production, maybe one or two more movies, one more season of American Horror Story, and then that is it for me. Because I think that’s enough. I want to go out with a bang, or should I say, a scare?”
As far as the theme of the show co-creator Ryan Murphy explained that American Horror Story’s season four will be set in two time periods — the 1950s and contemporary. Season four is more than likely to be about certain events that happened in the year 1950 in particular.
“If you look historically what happened in 1950, there’s some more clues in that year. It’s a period piece. We try and do the opposite of what we’ve done before. Jessica Lange has already started practicing her German accent so I’m very excited,” said Murphy.
Lange may portray a Marlene Dietrich, German-born American actress and singer. As for other returning members Sarah Paulson won’t be practicing a German accent, but she is expected to return with a special skill.
Evan Peters, who with Lange, has also been a staple actor of the series didn’t seem to be too sure on whether or not he was coming back to American Horror Story . According to an interview with Vulture , Peters said:
“I have no idea yet. But I definitely like that they’re continuing on with the lighter side of things.”
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly , Ryan Murphy echoed Evan Peters’ statements about a lighter season, having said:
“Next year will be equally as challenging, because so much of it is period and bizarre and crazy and gothic. My feeling is, if you loved this season, you’ll love next season. It has the same sort of comedic tone to it.”
