Amanda Bynes could avoid jail time if a judge decides to dismiss her infamous bong-tossing case. However, the actress will have to keep her erratic behavior under control.

The former What I Like About You star made plenty of headlines last year when she allegedly tossed a bong from the window of her New York City apartment. Although many thought Bynes would spend a few months behind bars for the incident, she currently has an opportunity to avoid jail time altogether.

If Amanda Bynes stays out of trouble over the next six months and attends a series of counseling sessions, then Manhattan Judge Diane Boyar said she will dismiss the case. The actress didn’t appear in court to address the situation, but her attorney said she completely understood the terms of the agreement.

“This is an important step in her rehabilitation and she is pleased with the result. We’re very optimistic about the future,” attorney Gerald Shargel explained .

Amanda Bynes’ bizarre encounter with police took place back in May of 2013. Not only was she accused of chucking a bong out the window, the actress also allegedly smoked marijuana in the lobby of her apartment building. She was immediately arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence, and possession of marijuana.

The incident was one of several curious incidents involving the She’s the Man star. The situation came to a head when she set fire to a random driveway in a suburban Los Angeles neighborhood. Bynes found herself under court-ordered psychiatric evaluation as a result of her increasingly dangerous behavior.

Amanda Bynes spent several months receiving inpatient treatment at the facility in California before heading home in November. The Inquisitr previously reported that the actress is incredibly anxious to get her life and career back in order.

Her mom’s attorney said in a recent statement :

“Amanda and her entire family would like to thank everyone who’s contacted them with good thoughts and wishes for Amanda’s recovery. Amanda has completed her inpatient rehabilitation and she’s feeling better every day. Despite the fact Amanda is no longer in a facility, her outpatient treatment is continuing. She’s very happy to reestablish the loving relationship with her family that she once shared.”

Unfortunately, Amanda Bynes still has to contend with a DUI charge in California. However, reports suggest that her attorneys are working hard to enter a plea deal that will effectively keep the actress out of jail. A hearing is presently scheduled for February 20.
