Alex Morgan scored a hat trick last night during the United States victory over Ireland.
The NY Times reports that Morgan scored three goals to lead the US to a 5-0 victory over Ireland during an international friendly game.
Morgan, who scored the game-winning goal during the Olympic semi-final last Summer, said:
“We’ve been waiting and itching to get out there on the field, I think (this) showed that we wanted to get out there and play. I just wanted to keep taking shots and they kept going my way. Abby and everyone just kept saying ‘Shoot! Shoot! It’s a slick surface!’ So I did. I was feeling it.”
Acting U.S. coach Jill Ellis said:
“Every time she touched the ball something dangerous happened.”
After Morgan completed her hat trick she was replaced on the field by Sydney Leroux. The reserve player managed to add two more goals of her own to the score. Leroux now has 12 goals for the season, a record for a reserve player on the United States’ team.

While Alex Morgan is making news on the field US goalie Hope Solo’s personal life is continually giving tabloids new stories. Most recently, Solo made the news when her new husband, Jerremy Stevems, was taken into custody for an alleged parole violation.
